I am a Senior Scientist at the Department of Political Science at the University of Salzburg and Salzburg Centre of European Union Studies (SCEUS). In the past, I held Marie Skłodowska-Curie and Lise Meitner Fellowships. I completed my PhD at the European University Institute in Florence.
My research focuses on intergovernmental organizations, particularly the EU, and I have a passion for both quantitative and qualitative methods. My book EU Trade Agreements and European Integration: Commission Autonomy or Council Control? was published by Routledge. It examines the period from the 1970s to the 2000s, when the European Commission used its trade powers to turn the EU into a comprehensive external actor. My work has appeared in international journals such as The Review of International Organizations, Review of International Political Economy, Journal of European Public Policy, Journal of Common Market Studies, and European Union Politics. Beyond research, I am committed to teaching, academic service, and public engagement. Since 2026, I have served on the Board of the Austrian Political Science Association (ÖGPW), after previously serving on the Steering Committee of the ECPR Standing Group on International Relations. At Salzburg, I chair the Working Group on European Integration at the PLUS School of Education, which connects university teaching with outreach to schools across the region. I am a member of the Scientists for Future Salzburg and was part of Europe’s first European Citizens’ Initiative, advocating for more EU exchange programs.
